OVERVIEW
The MultiChron 12 is Gallet’s most famous line of watches produced from the 1950s until the 1970s and were assembled in several configurations; different dial colors and textures, different case shapes depending on the manufacturer, and two different movements over time. One of the more common dial configurations came in a painted matte black, but what’s not so common is the batch of these that were prone to fading from black to brown over time when exposed to sunlight, which many vintage watch collectors know as “tropical” dials. These tropical dials occurred mostly from watches in the 1950s and 60s, because the paints that dial manufacturers used were unstable. At the time, many saw this as an aberration and defect with many owners getting them replaced upon service. Now a perfect tropical dial on any vintage watch trades for a premium, not just because it’s rare but because the result is absolutely stunning.
CONDITION NOTES
CASE: Excellent condition with sharp edges and never polished. Very light wear considering how old it is. A couple scratches present on the caseback from an opening tool by some idiot who didn’t know now to use it properly.
DIAL & HANDS: Near perfect tropical matte dial with original untouched lume. Partially missing lume in the minute hand.
MOVEMENT: Keeping great time with all functions working smoothly. The EP40 movement is one of the most satisfying chronograph movements I’ve ever handled.
