1966 Rolex GMT-Master 1675 Gilt Dial
They don’t make ‘em like they used to.

OVERVIEW
Another truly stunning example of one the the last galvanic gilt dial GMT 1675s before Rolex switched to the matte dial in 1967. The term “gilt” is more commonly defined as an applied gold finish to a surface, but as it pertains to dials the galvanic gilt process used either a gold, nickel or copper plated brass baseplate to show the words on the dial in negative relief. This example has a warm champagne print that likely comes from a patinated nickel finish.
As Rolex (and other brands as well) started to significantly ramp up and streamline their production, the galvanic gilt process of printing dials became too costly and time consuming which is why no one continues to do it now. These dials are absolutely special though, and nothing compares to seeing the real thing in the sunlight, especially when the originality is 100% and the condition is top notch.
CONDITION NOTES
CASE: Professionally sharpened in the past with sharp, thick long lugs and light wear. No corrosion at the seams which means the watch is still water resistant with fresh gaskets. Bezel is also sharp with a vibrant cobalt and peach small triangle insert.
DIAL & HANDS: Stunning and fully glossy galvanic gilt dial with champagne print and untouched lume plots. Hardly any deterioration on the lacquer, only a few light superficial marks only visible at certain angles which is normal for a 60 year old watch. Excellent original flat gilt handset with original lume and matching patina. And of course, correct tiny GMT hand.
MOVEMENT: Super clean and running optimally.
