Beauty is in the eye of the blueholder.

OVERVIEW
I’m typically not a big fan of Roman numeral markers, but there are two exceptions where I prefer them. The first is Cartier (obviously) and the second are these Buckley dial Datejusts, especially in this rare blue with white print configuration, with even more rare box and papers included. What should typically be considered a pretty common watch, I consider this Datejust highly unique especially upon closer inspection of the dial.
Throughout the 70’s and 80’s some Datejust and Day-Date dials were prone to having the galvanic paint flake off near the lume plots, which would eventually spread to the edges of the dial. Much like tropical dials or cream dial explorers, this is a defect in Rolex’s production process. Many may find the condition of this dial to be off-putting; I find it to be very cool and interesting. As long as “damage” isn’t the result of neglect, poor watchmaking, or just plain ol’ stupidity I welcome these characteristics in a vintage watch. I’m pretty sure Bob Ross would consider this dial a happy accident rather than a mistake.
CONDITION NOTES
CASE: Lightly polished in the past, but sharp with thick and even lugs.
DIAL: All original and untouched blue Buckley Roman dial with full original lume plots. As stated in the profile, some of the blue galvanic paint has worn away near the lume plots and edges of the dial and is a fairly normal occurence.
HANDS: Original and clean hands with lume matching the dial and only minor corrosion.
MOVEMENT: In great shape and running accurately.
