1978 Rolex Sea-Dweller 1665 MK2 “Rail Dial”

Who knew a professional tool could look so good?

$18,950

OVERVIEW

The MK2 “Rail Dial” is the most sought after dial configuration of the Rolex 1665 Sea-Dweller after the early Double Red and is mostly distinguishable by how the words “SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED” line up in the center. This dial, along with the 1665 COMEX dial were the only ones produced by the manufacturer Stern and were only made from 1978 - 1979.

This example looks as if it was worn by its owner often, who took care of it but didn’t fuss over wearing it.

CONDITION NOTES

CASE: Sharp & thick excellent case with no corrosion outside or in. Original chamfers are present although appear to have some “sleeve polish” on the 4:00 lug. Some wear on the tips of some of the lugs due to a loose bracelet endlink (which I’ve tightened). Correct MK3 Bezel insert.

DIAL & HANDS: Stunning original MK2 “Rail Dial” with wonderful original creamy yellow lume with excellent original handset with matching patina.

MOVEMENT: Movement will be fully overhauled prior to shipment.
