1985 Rolex Submariner 16800 Matte Dial

When you want it all.

PROFILE

The Rolex 16800 is the first Submariner to feature a sapphire crystal allowing its depth rating to increase to 300m. Introduced in 1978, it was made alongside the older Rolex 1680 for a few years as a transitional model until 1987 when the 168000 was introduced. First iterations of the 16800 featured matte dials as late as 1985 while Rolex started to adopt the glossy dials with white gold marker surrounds we still see today. This combination makes these examples of Subs some of the most unique ever made. Sporting an old style matte dial with lovely tritium patinated markers housed inside an updated case, crystal, and movement makes it the ultimate vintage everyday sports watch. Like driving a Singer Porsche 911 or taking a 1970s Ford Bronco and giving it a brand new engine, power steering, ABS brakes, airbags, and an LCD screen.
