1960s Heuer Carrera 3147N “Dato 45”
Everything you need and nothing you don’t.

OVERVIEW
The 3147N was the first Carrera that Heuer produced featuring a date function since the introduction of the model in 1963 with the first execution (Dato 12) designed in true Heuer form, symmetrical and functional with two subdials on each side and the date window right below the 12:00 marker. This design in fact turned out to be less functional than originally planned since the reset chronograph hand actually blocks the view of the date window. Because of this Heuer decided to design the 2nd execution differently.
The Dato 45 is the result of that redesign, and while at first glance it appears to be the quirkiest Carrera that exists, it’s actually the best example of Heuer’s minimalist ethos. I’m sure Jack Heuer tried to think of more elegant and unique ways to include a date function to the Carrera (adding the date window above 6:00 was probably too generic for him) but in the end he made the exact watch he intended. As the 1969 Heuer advertisment states, it’s "ideal for the businessman who needs a chronograph but can never remember the date."
