1940s Eterna Gilt Dial Dress Watch

Couldn’t have done this any better myself.

ABOUT THIS WATCH

If someone were to ask me to design the ideal time only vintage dress watch, I most likely would have designed it with a black galvanic gilt dial, some cool markers and sword hands. Then they would have showed me this Eterna and I would have thought to myself, “Ok maybe I should leave watch designing to the professionals”.

Not that my design wouldn’t have been nice, but really the best designs are typically simplistic while having details that 99.9% of people wouldn’t come up with on their own. This watch, with its glossy black gilt finish, unique Roman radium + square markers and militaryesque baton hands is the best example of this. Sort of like looking at a painting by Mondrian or Pollock, you think to yourself, “I could have come up with this”, but actually no you couldn’t.

At 32mm, it is not a big watch by any means, but in the 1940s this was a standard size for most dress watches. If this watch was 35mm and up it would be expensive; say maybe add $1000 to it for every 1mm larger than it is. But I personally love wearing this watch and similar watches of its size and I know for someone out there this watch is absolutely perfect.

Having very recently been serviced, this Eterna is running great and is ready to find the owner that is perfect for it as well.
