ABOUT THIS WATCH
Since the beginning of horological marketing up until now, the way the industry designs and sells watches to women is completely different than to men. Even today timepieces marketed towards women aren’t just smaller, they’re either more simplistic and bastardized versions of the men’s watch, or adorned with pretty gemstones or “cute” embellishments. Maybe there are some women who prefer watches like this, but I suspect with the growing number of women wearing the same watches as men this continued marketing is unnecessary at best and at worst just downright offensive.
I’m reluctant to call this wonderful Girard Perregaux Deep Diver a “ladies watch” just because it’s small, but at the time that’s exactly who it was intended for. The cool thing about it though, is that stylistically it’s exactly the same as the large version and unless it was pictured next to something familiar you probably wouldn’t assume it’s only 30mm. We need more watches like this in general and I have a feeling watch companies are starting to take the hint with Rolex and Tudor making various sizes of the exact same design.
For someone out there, this is the perfect watch regardless of age, gender, or wrist size. All that matters is that you love it and what’s even better is you get to have this mint and gorgeous example for cheap.
