ABOUT THIS WATCH

Not really considered a well-known watch brand outside of vintage collector circles, Angelus is mostly renowned for having produced chronographs for the Hungarian Air-Force as well as developing one of the most robust chronograph movements of its time with the caliber 215. This watch is an example of their most iconic model, and while it is exactly the same as the watches produced for the Hungarian L.E. (Légi Erő), this one lacks the LE engraving on the back making it the civilian version of the famed military chronograph. Having spent its life not being an actual military issued watch is probably the reason this piece is in the very condition it’s in, looking masculine but with no real wear. Like a burly man with very soft hands.

Regardless of its actual purpose, I consider it one of the most attractive military chronographs ever made, with a beautiful glossy black dial, radium markers and the most legible gilt outer track I’ve ever seen. There were multiple variations of this watch offered throughout the decade or so it was produced, but this one with the tachymeter on the inside of the minute track is a highly unique design feature and my favorite of all variations. With its 38mm steel waterproof style case, gorgeous & legible pilots dial and large crown, it’s overall utilitarian design transcends changing trends and will always be in style. This watch is what you get when you put both form and function at equally high priority.

While the case on this watch has obviously been lightly polished in the past, the faceted lugs are still quite nice and the overall package is wonderful, with it’s only real enemy throughout life being the lume. It’s common for watches with radium markers to eventually degrade such as this watch has, as well as leave the same patina on the dial as typically occurs from radium dust. It’s age aside, this timepiece is in wonderful, completely original, and ideal working condition. Paired with a lovely military green suede strap, this Angelus is ready to be worn and admired by its new owner.
